Reviewing Childhood: Crash Bandicoot

Crash N Sane trilogy was released in 2017 and was a remake of the first 3 crash games; Crash Bandicoot, Cortex Strikes Back, and Warped.

I adored the crash cames as a kid. I hope they eventually re-release Twinsanity, and Wrath of Cortex which was my favourite.

I have clear memories of playing the first crash game in PlayStation 1 as a child, and the second, but the third isn’t as familiar I think I must have played it once or twice at someone else’s house.

The best thing about the N Sane trilogy is that it all it changed was the graphics, it brought what was a good game in the 90s (and still is) into this generation by updating the graphics.

The first game:

The first game is pretty straight forward, each level brings you further on the island, until the big boss fight on the 3rd and final island where crash rescues his girlfriend and hopes to go on living a peaceful life.

Cortex Strikes Back:

Crash Bandicoot 2 Cortex Strikes Back
Crash is abducted by Cortex who tricks him into thinking he wants to save the world. Crash has to gather crystals in order to “save the world” according to Cortex, except his sister, Coco, and Cortex’s ex-assistant Dr Nitrus Biotry, warn Crash not to get trust Cortex and to gather gems instead.

Warped:

Crash Bandicoot Warped
Although a continuation of the plot of the first two games, Warped is a little different. When cortex ship crashes on Earth after crash destroyed it he unleases Aku Aku (the mask) evil brother Uka Uka and the two hatch a plan to gather crystals to enslave the earth. Crash and Coco must travel through time to get the crystals before they do.

The Crash levels are straight forward and basically obstacle courses where Crash survive attacks and falls, and gather a crystals. there’s the occasional boss fight which is usually easier than the main levels, in fact the last level of the games are always underwhelming easy. Crash is still fun to play all these years later.

  1. It seems like they’ve really gone at it with re-releasing retro games on newer consoles lately! I was more of a spyro girl myself (though I don’t have a console to play the updated one on anymore), but I love what you’ve said about them updating the graphics. I remember playing Crash Bandicoot at a friends house a couple of times on her brothers console, and I remember really enjoying it!

  2. Love this! I’ve been revisiting a game from my childhood recently, Spyro! I think it’s amazing that all these games we used to play are being reimagined for younger generations (but mainly so we can replay them too!) My favourite Crash game was the racing one!

  3. Like yourself, I don’t remember the third game for some reason. They were great fun to play though. Ironically I haven’t joined the next generation yet so can’t benefit from the re-release of these classics.

  4. Ahh memories. I remember playing this with my little brother when I was younger. I was obsessed with this and Spyro. 😊 The fact they have been remastered is awesome, but I haven’t had chance to play them yet. It makes me sad.

Thank you so much for sharing this and making me feel super nostalgic haha.
