My Adventure Book

Up is one of my favourite movies, and aside from the devastating Carl & Ellie life montage at the start, it’s really inspirational.

In UP, Carl thought all along that Ellie’s adventure book was empty because she never got to Paradise Falls but when he opened it he saw it was full of photographs and memories from their life together. Life isn’t about where you go, but how you live it and Ellie lived hers to the fullest.

I started my adventure book way back in 2013. I got the notebook in a market in Spain, and given that I got it while abroad and it has a pirate ship on it, it felt like the perfect Adventure Book . It doesn’t just have travel documented in it, but a few letters from people over the years, stamps, cards from my favourite places at home, and big memories from home such as when I played gigs and recorded a demo, my Deb’s, and yearly updates on my life.

Sometimes I get frustrated that I haven’t done all the things I wanted to by now, but I can look back on it and remember that I still have been lucky enough to have had some amazing experiences in my 22 years on this Earth, and I hope I’ll have many more. I get disillusioned at the fact that my pace is a little slower than my peers, but it’s my life, I’ve said no once in a lifetime opportunities because it wasn’t right for me and that’s okay.

I still have things to look forward to, and I still have fond memories to look back on too. Hopefully I still have My Adventure Book when I’m old, and it’s full of a lifetime of amazing memories.

  1. This book is a great idea. I did something similar when I was your age. All concert tickets, pictures of friends, trinkets of places we’d been to together, etc.
I’m 36 now and I still have that book and I cherish it. Looking at all those memories is actually like travelling!
Document it as much as you can!

  2. This is such a sweet idea! I love that you keep all your memories in one place. I have a similar book for travel (postcards, tickets, etc) and another book for gig tickets. It’s such a lovely thing to look back on over the years. Thank you for sharing yours, it looks beautiful 💖 xx

  3. It is cool that you’ve started your adventure book and kept it going for five years! I’ve started something similar but never really kept it going after a couple of months. It’s okay – take on life at your own pace. No one is required to travel to 50 countries before 30 (though, I’d already lose at this point becuase $$$). Go at your own speed! 🙂
